Devlog #1: Unveiling the World of Dead Zone

Welcome, survivors, to the first entry in our Dead Zone developer's log! We're thrilled to share our progress and insights as we venture into the depths of game development, bringing this zombie-infested world to life.

Concept and Inspiration:

The journey began with a spark of inspiration during a Horror-themed gamejam in 2023. We envisioned a game that not only tested players' shooting skills but also immersed them in a post-apocalyptic world teeming with the undead. With Unreal Engine 5.3 as our canvas, we set out to create an FPS experience that would leave players on the edge of their seats.

Core Mechanics and Gameplay:

Our focus centered on refining fundamental FPS mechanics. We wanted the movement to be intuitive (WASD), allowing players to navigate the treacherous terrain seamlessly. Sprinting (Shift) became essential for evading hordes, while precise aiming and shooting (Left Click) became the keys to survival. The addition of Iron Sights (Right Click) and quick weapon swaps (Middle Mouse Button) adds layers of strategy, ensuring every encounter is adrenaline-pumping.

Interactivity and Immersion:

In Dead Zone, interaction is key. Players can explore the world and interact with objects and fellow survivors using the 'E' key. This element of exploration not only deepens the narrative but also provides valuable resources for the player's survival.

User Experience and Controls:

We've strived for an intuitive control scheme. Players can pause the game and access menus easily using the 'Exit' key. The fluidity of mouse movement for looking around coupled with the 'R' key for reloading ensures players are always in control, even in the midst of chaos.
